The Lowdown on Mesothelioma: Symptoms, Treatment & Attorney

Mesothelioma is a serious health issue almost always caused by the inhalation of asbestos. Often times symptons of mesothelioma don’t appear for 20-50 years after being exposed to asbestos, so it’s important to get checked out if you have ever worked in an environment that has been found to contain asbestos, including construction workers,  shipyard workers, asbestos miners, and even anyone who may have washed the clothes that contained asbestos!

Symptoms of Mesothelioma

As previously mentioned, symptoms of mesothelioma may not be evident for decades after asbestos exposure. Here are the main symptoms to watch out for:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Excessive coughing and wheezing
  • Pain in the chest
  • Abdominal pain
  • Sudden weight loss

As with any cancerous disease, early detection is the key to success, so even though these symptoms may seem rather “minor”, they should be taken very seriously if you know that you’ve been exposed to asbestos at some point in your life.

Treatment Options

There are a variety of treatment options available to mesothelioma patients, including drug therapy and radiation. Typically, a combination of drugs are used to attack the disease, and in many cases this type of therapy works well. Radiation therapy can also work well, but it often attacks healthy tissue along with the cancerous tissue.

Finding a Mesothelioma Attorney

By now I’m sure everyone has heard about the huge number of lawsuits relating to cases of mesothelioma. Mesothelioma patients are entitled to monetary compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other expenses, so it’s important to find a qualified mesothelioma attorney that knows what they’re doing.

I came across a great mesothelioma lawyer that has a proven track record in these types of cases. Their website also provides a wealth of information regarding mesothelioma, as well as stories of other mesothelioma patients experiences in their own words. It’s a very helpful resource.
