Excessive Belly Fat in Men is a Serious Health Concern

Excessive belly fat, aka: “beer belly”, is one of the most common health problems as men get older. Women can also suffer from having excessive belly fat, although it’s far more common in men – just look around you!…It’s a serious problem! Belly fat can lead to serious health problems, so it’s important to address the issue asap.

The Mayo Clinic recently reported that belly fat in men can lead to the following diseases:

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Certain types of cancer
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Insulin resistance
  • High triglycerides
  • Low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good,” cholesterol
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Sleep apnea

Is my Belly Fat Unhealthy?

Doctor Michael Jensen M.D. states that on average, a waist size of 40 or larger should be considered “excessive”. If you fall into this category, it’s imperative that you start eating healthier and exercising regularly or else you greatly increase the risk of developing any of the diseases listed above.

Is Beer the Main Cause of the Dreaded Beer Belly?

It’s important to point out that a beer belly isn’t necessarily caused by drinking too much beer – although it can certainly contribute the excessive belly fat. Some studies have shown that some types of alcohol, namely wine, can help to reduce fat and contribute to overall health if consumed in moderation. Keep in mind that most bottles of beer contain about 100 calories each, so if you’re drinking a 6 pack a day, that’s 600 “empty” calories with no nutritional value – not to mention you probably have a drinking problem by that point!

Shed That Belly Fat!

If you’re ready to start shedding those extra pounds around your waist, start eating more protein in your diet (i.e., chicken, fish, nuts, etc…) and drinking more water – skip the sodas, energy drinks, and other sugary drinks. Also, try to be active for 20-30 minutes per day. This could include taking the dog for a walk, cleaning the house, playing with your kids, or working-out. Or if you have a very busy lifestyle, you can opt for a much shorter, more vigorous workout regiment. Follow these basic guidelines and you’ll begin noticing your jeans fitting a little bit looser within weeks.

Hey great, this has been a great help to me, I have had some really hard trouble in my private life recently and it is funny how certain things can really pick you back up or make you look differently on the horrible stuff and get working on the other things in life. Anyway thank you a lot.
